Balance Druid Guide
Balance Druid is Midnight's premier spread-cleave and mass-AoE caster — Starfall plus the Shooting Stars tier set let it carpet whole packs in Astral damage from range, which is exactly why it sits high in M+. Two DoTs (Moonfire/Sunfire) feeding an Eclipse system give it strong, mobile multi-dotting, but its single-target ceiling and reliance on ramp keep it merely solid (B) on patchwork raid fights rather than top-tier. The rotation is forgiving to learn but rewards tight Eclipse management and Astral Power banking for burst windows.

📊 Stat Priority
General priority: Item Level / Intellect > Critical Strike ≈ Mastery > Haste > Versatility. The three secondaries are close in value and roughly equal across both hero trees, so don't reforge your whole set chasing tiny gains — higher item level almost always wins.
- Critical Strike — strong now that Ascendant Eclipse applies a DoT scaling off any damage you deal inside an Eclipse, so crits compound.
- Mastery — increases Nature and Arcane damage, with a bonus against targets carrying your Moonfire/Sunfire; rises in value the more you multi-dot (M+ favors it).
- Haste — faster casts, faster DoT ticks, more Astral Power generation; smooths the rotation but no longer a hard breakpoint stat.
- Versatility — flat damage plus a little defense; the safe progression stat but the lowest throughput.
🎁 Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables
Tier set (Shooting Stars theme): 2pc = Shooting Stars deal ~50% more damage and generate 3 extra Astral Power outside Eclipse. 4pc = Starfall and Starsurge deal +5% damage and gain a 40% chance to strike with an exploding Shooting Star that splashes Astral damage to nearby enemies. The set chains hard with Starweaver and Hail of Stars — free spenders saturate the 4pc procs, so prioritize the 4pc for AoE.
Top trinkets: Vaelgor's Final Stare (2-min on-use — overlap with your burst window) and Locus-Walker's Ribbon (passive) are the best overall; Gaze of the Alnseer is the strongest passive in both raid and M+. Murlok shows Gaze of the Alnseer and Vaelgor's Final Stare as the most-equipped M+ trinkets.
Consumables: Flask of the Shattered Sun · Food Royal Roast / Impossibly Royal Roast · Combat potion Light's Potential or Draught of Rampant Abandon · Health potion Silvermoon Health Potion · Weapon oil Thalassian Phoenix Oil · Void-Touched Augment Rune. Gems: one Indecipherable Eversong Diamond for the prismatic bonus, fill the rest to your simmed stat weights (Flawless Quick Amethyst / Crit-or-Mastery gems). Enchants: Chest Mark of the Worldsoul · Legs Sunfire Silk Spellthread · Boots Shaladrassil's Roots · Rings Eyes of the Eagle · Weapon Acuity of the Ren'dorei · Head Empowered Rune of Avoidance.

Real WarcraftLogs flask usage: Flask of the Shattered Sun 45% · Flask of the Magisters 35% · Flask of the Blood Knights 20%
Flask of the Shattered Sun gives the Intellect Balance Druid wants for burst; swap to Flask of the Magisters when you prefer the secondary-stat profile, since top logs split roughly 45/35 between the two.
Eat from the Harandar Celebration feast for the Well Fed buff, granting a primary-stat (Intellect) boost.
Pop Light's Potential on cooldown during burst windows; keep a Silvermoon Health Potion and a Demonic Healthstone for emergencies and apply a Void-Touched Augment Rune before the pull.
WCL top players split Shattered Sun (45%) and Flask of the Magisters (35%); Magisters is the common alternative. Logs show the buff as Hearty Well Fed.
🚀 Opener
Pre-pot, apply both DoTs, then dump banked Astral Power under your stacked cooldowns. Pre-cast Wrath (Solar) or Starfire (Lunar) so a spender lands the instant combat starts. On big pulls, pre-place DoTs across the pack before pulling cooldowns.
- Pre-cast a filler (
Starfire for Lunar /
Wrath for Solar) timed to land on engage
Moonfire and
Sunfire on the primary target (multi-dot the pack in AoE)
Celestial Alignment (or
Incarnation: Chosen of Elune) to open both Eclipses
Convoke the Spirits during the burst window
Force of Nature (Keeper of the Grove) /
Fury of Elune (Elune's Chosen)- Spend banked
Astral Power:
Starsurge (single-target) or
Starfall (3+ targets) - Resume filler casts to re-bank
Astral Power, refreshing DoTs and Eclipses - From here follow the single-target or AoE priority below
⚔️ Single-Target Priority
Keep both DoTs up 100%, ride Solar Eclipse with Wrath, and spend Astral Power on Starsurge without overcapping. Bank Astral Power slightly before cooldowns so the burst window is all spenders.
- Maintain
Moonfire and
Sunfire — refresh in the pandemic window, never let them drop
Stellar Flare (if talented) — keep it on the target alongside the DoTs
Celestial Alignment /
Incarnation: Chosen of Elune on cooldown
Convoke the Spirits and
Force of Nature /
Fury of Elune on cooldown
Starsurge to spend
Astral Power (don't overcap; pool just before burst)
Consume
Shooting Stars / free-spender procs (
Starweaver) as they appear- Enter and ride the appropriate
Eclipse —
Wrath as the Solar filler /
Astral Power generator
Wrath as the fallback filler whenever nothing higher is available
💥 AoE / Multi-Target Priority
This is the spec's home. Spread DoTs onto everything, favor Lunar Eclipse + Starfire, and pour Astral Power into Starfall. The Shooting Stars tier set turns your spread cleave into a wave of exploding Astral procs — multi-dot widely to feed it.
Sunfire — spreads to all nearby enemies; apply first to tag the pack
Moonfire on as many targets as you can reach (multi-dot)
Stellar Flare (if talented) on priority targets
Celestial Alignment / Incarnation on cooldown for the burst window
Convoke the Spirits and
Force of Nature /
Fury of Elune
Starfall to spend
Astral Power at 3+ targets — refresh before it falls off
Consume
Shooting Stars /
Hail of Stars free-spender procs
Starfire as the Lunar filler /
Astral Power generator (favored in AoE)
Warrior of Elune (if talented) to empower a burst of instant Starfires
⏱️ Cooldowns
Stack your major cooldowns together for a burst window, then bank Astral Power right before so the window is all spenders. Cooldown lengths depend on your talent build (the Incarnation vs Celestial Alignment choice changes the major).
💚 Defensive Toolkit
Druid's defenses are built around shapeshifting, instant heals, and the bear-form panic button. Most are off the GCD and castable while moving — weave them without losing a cast.
🧰 Utility & Crowd Control
| Ability | Use |
|---|---|
| Solar Beam | AoE interrupt + silence zone — silences everything standing in it. Use a mouseover/focus macro; positions matter since it's ground-targeted. |
| Mighty Bash | Single-target stun (talent). Hard CC for casters or dangerous adds. |
| Incapacitating Roar | Short AoE incapacitate (talent) — crowd control for a whole pack, breaks on damage. |
| Ursol's Vortex | Pulls and slows enemies into a zone — grip packs together or stop runners off a ledge. |
| Typhoon | Frontal knockback — interrupt-by-displacement (e.g. Ascendant orbs) or peel off a pack. |
| Hibernate | CC for beasts/dragonkin — niche affix/add control. |
| Innervate | External — grants a healer free mana during heavy-cast windows. |
| Rebirth / Revitalize | Combat resurrection — clutch for raid/M+ recoveries. |
| Remove Corruption / Nature's Cure | Dispel — Curse/Poison (and Magic in Affinity/talent setups). Key for dispellable affixes. |
| Stampeding Roar | Raid-wide +60% move speed — group mobility for mechanics or chained pulls. |
🗝️ Mythic+ Tips
- This is your strongest content — pre-spread
Sunfire (it splashes) then
Moonfire across the pack before pulling cooldowns so the
Shooting Stars set is already rolling when you burst. - Favor Lunar
Eclipse +
Starfire and dump
Astral Power into
Starfall on 3+ targets; keep
Starfall refreshed rather than letting it fall off between casts. - Bank
Astral Power right before
Celestial Alignment / Incarnation so the whole window is spenders; overlap Convoke and
Force of Nature /
Fury of Elune inside it.
Solar Beam is a premium AoE interrupt + silence — drop it on a caster cluster to lock several mobs at once; use
Typhoon or
Ursol's Vortex to reposition runners.- Keeper of the Grove is the most-played M+ tree for its burst and flexibility; switch to Elune's Chosen for very large, long, sustained-AoE pulls.
- You're mobile — keep DoTs ticking and cast instants (DoTs, procced spenders) while running mechanics so you never have downtime.
As of Patch 12.0.5, the Nebulous Voidcore lets you target gear via Bonus Loot rolls after Season 1 Raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunts — the controlled way to grind out Balance BiS over the season. A Bonus Roll after a M+ dungeon awards the Great Vault item level for that keystone level, so +10 and above can give 1/6 Myth-track pieces. Spend your weekly cores on the slots that matter most: your trinkets and the Shooting Stars tier set, whose 4pc is your single biggest AoE gain.
⌨️ Macros & Addons
WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) — use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (import configs from Wago.io). Addons: ElvUI, DBM/BigWigs, OmniCD, Plater (DoT tracking), Cell/Grid (dispel click-casting).

🚫 Common Mistakes
- Letting
Moonfire or
Sunfire drop — your DoTs feed
Eclipse, Mastery, and the tier set's
Shooting Stars; 100% uptime is non-negotiable. - Overcapping
Astral Power — wasted resource. Spend down before you cap, but pool just before cooldowns so the burst window is all spenders. - Using
Starsurge in AoE or
Starfall on single target — match the spender to target count (3+ =
Starfall). - Firing cooldowns cold —
Celestial Alignment/Incarnation with no DoTs up and no
Astral Power banked wastes most of the window. - Not overlapping Convoke and
Force of Nature /
Fury of Elune with your main cooldown — un-stacked cooldowns lose huge burst. - Standing still to hard-cast through mechanics — you have instants (DoTs, procced spenders) and
Stampeding Roar; stay mobile and keep damage flowing.
