Havoc Demon Hunter Guide

B raidA m+updated 2026-06-18

Havoc is Midnight's premier high-mobility melee — class-defining movement (Fel Rush, Vengeful Retreat, double jump, Glide), strong personal defensives (two-charge Blur, Darkness, Netherwalk), and built-in cleave that needs almost no setup. That toolkit makes it excellent in Mythic+, where mobility, on-demand burst AoE and the raid-wide Chaos Brand debuff are all premium. In raid its pure single-target throughput is more middling — solid but rarely top of the meters — which lands it a bit lower there. The new Apex talent Eternal Hunt turns The Hunt into a real burst cooldown that fuels your Eye Beam and Metamorphosis windows.

Fel-ScarredBothThe default in nearly all content. Eye Beam and Metamorphosis fuel Demonsurge: each Demonic window you fire two empowered Death Sweeps (via Eternal Hunt) and an Annihilation to consume Demonsurge. Provides the strongest single-target plus excellent on-demand burst AoE, and leans on Mastery harder than Reaver.
Aldrachi ReaverMythic+Reaver's Glaive is a high-priority press that empowers your next Blade Dance + Chaos Strike; keep Reaver's Mark applied (stacks aren't a big concern, Thrill of the Fight uptime is high in Midnight). Niche pick for fights needing priority-target funnel via Wounded Quarry; leans slightly more on Crit than Fel-Scarred.

🎲 Bonus Roll Targets where to spend Nebulous Voidcores

As of Patch 12.0.5, the Nebulous Voidcore lets you target gear via Bonus Loot rolls after Season 1 Raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunts — a controlled way to chase Havoc BiS instead of relying on the Vault. A Bonus Roll after a M+ dungeon awards the Great Vault item level for that keystone level, so +10 and above can give 1/6 Myth-track pieces. Crit is your focus stat and Havoc lives in Mythic+, so spend weekly cores on item level, your tier set, and Crit-heavy trinkets.

1
Chimaerus Raid
Your BiS trinket from this boss
Top trinket target. Its passive Agility proc grants a large amount of primary stat with high uptime, making it a strong, always-relevant pick for Havoc. Keep rolling Chimaerus until the Mythic version drops.
2
The Seat of the Triumvirate Mythic+
Tier pieces + Crit secondaries
Best M+ roll target — most of its table catalyzes into your Devouring Reaver's tier set or rolls clean Crit-leaning secondaries, and Havoc spends most of its life in keys. Rolls pay out at your keystone's Great Vault item level, so push +10 or higher for Myth-track.
3
Belo'ren Raid
Your BiS trinket from this boss
Passive Crit trinket and a strong static-stat option that fits Havoc's Crit-focused profile. The table has just a couple other pieces besides the Radiant/your BiS trinket pair, giving decent odds to land the one you want.
4
Tier set token bosses Raid
Devouring Reaver's 4pc (Metamorphosis Haste)
The 4pc grants extra Haste during Metamorphosis and reinforces your burst window with no rotation change. Spend rolls on whichever tier-token boss completes your set before optimizing off-set secondaries.
💡 Roll where the useful loot table is smallest and the payoff is biggest — a boss whose table is mostly the trinkets or tier you want gives far better odds than one with ten pieces you'll vendor. Since Havoc spends most of its time in M+, lean your toggle there.

🚀 Opener

Goal is to slam your burst window together: line up The Hunt + Eye Beam + Metamorphosis so Demonsurge (Fel-Scarred) fires inside Meta. Pre-pull Immolation Aura so you start with Fury. Felblade with Inertia ready gives a movement-speed + damage buff to ride into the pull.

  1. Pre-cast Immolation Aura just before the pull
  2. Felblade (with Inertia ready) to gap-close and buff
  3. The Hunt (opens the burst window; Eternal Hunt empowers your next Eye Beam)
  4. Sigil of Flame (drop on the target for Fury + damage)
  5. Eye Beam (now empowered by The Hunt)
  6. Metamorphosis (with Eye Beam + Blade Dance on cooldown for Chaotic Transformation resets)
  7. Essence Break inside Meta
  8. Death Sweep, then Annihilation to consume Demonsurge
  9. Vengeful Retreat to proc Initiative, then continue the priority below

⚔️ Single-Target Priority

Havoc is a build-and-spend loop: generators (Demon's Bite/Felblade, Immolation Aura, Sigil of Flame) feed Fury, which you dump into Blade Dance/Death Sweep and Chaos Strike/Annihilation. Eye Beam every ~20s anchors the rotation; everything else slots around it.

  1. Felblade with Inertia ready (or Fel Rush if Felblade is down)
  2. The Hunt (on cooldown; it empowers the next Eye Beam)
  3. Reaver's Glaive when you have no active Reaver's Mark (Aldrachi Reaver only)
  4. Death Sweep (during Metamorphosis — highest-value spender)
  5. Immolation Aura at 2 charges (don't overcap)
  6. Vengeful Retreat to trigger Initiative, aligned with Eye Beam
  7. Eye Beam on cooldown
  8. Essence Break during Metamorphosis, then fill its 4s with Death Sweep + Annihilation
  9. Metamorphosis with Eye Beam + Blade Dance ready (Chaotic Transformation resets them)
  10. Blade Dance (outside Meta)
  11. Annihilation / Chaos Strike to dump Fury (and consume Demonsurge for Fel-Scarred)
  12. Demon's Bite / Fel Rush as the filler generator

💥 AoE / Multi-Target Priority

Cleave is built in — Blade Dance, Eye Beam and Immolation Aura already hit everything. The main change vs single-target is prioritizing Immolation Aura (Ragefire) and Eye Beam, and using Blade Dance over Chaos Strike as the spender at 2+ targets.

  1. The Hunt to open the burst window
  2. Eye Beam on cooldown (core AoE damage + empowered by The Hunt)
  3. Sigil of Flame on the pack
  4. Immolation Aura — keep it rolling; it's a core AoE component (Ragefire detonates on nearby targets)
  5. Metamorphosis + Essence Break for the burst window
  6. Death Sweep / Blade Dance as the primary spender (cleaves the whole pack)
  7. Glaive Tempest / Fel Barrage if talented (uncapped sustained AoE)
  8. Chaos Strike / Annihilation only to dump excess Fury after Blade Dance
  9. Immolation Aura + Demon's Bite as filler generators

⏱️ Cooldowns

Your damage is all about stacking these together. The core 20s loop is Eye Beam (with Cycle of Hatred), wrapped by a 2-minute Metamorphosis and a ~1-minute The Hunt. Line them up rather than firing them randomly.

Metamorphosis2 min
Your defining burst window (~20s). +20% Haste, transforms abilities (Blade Dance → Death Sweep, Chaos Strike → Annihilation), and via Chaotic Transformation resets Eye Beam + Blade Dance on cast. For Fel-Scarred this enables Demonsurge. Also a defensive — grants a chunk of bonus health.
Eye Beam~20s
Channeled core ability and the anchor of the rotation. With the Eternal Hunt Apex talent, casting it after The Hunt deals ~100% more damage and hits a wider area. Try never to leave it on cooldown.
The Hunt~1 min
Charge + bleed cooldown, now a major button thanks to Eternal Hunt: it empowers your next Eye Beam, widens its area, reduces The Hunt's own cooldown by 15s and boosts Blade Dance damage. Use to open every burst window.
Essence Break~40s
Applies a 4s window where your Chaos Strike/Annihilation and Blade Dance/Death Sweep deal greatly increased damage. Fire it inside Meta, then cram those 4 seconds full of Death Sweep + Annihilation.
Immolation Aura~12s (2 charges)
Generator + AoE. With A Fire Inside it runs two charges. Pre-cast before pulls for opener Fury; in AoE keep it rolling for Ragefire detonations. Don't sit at 2 charges.

💚 Defensive Toolkit

One of the more durable melee specs: two Blur charges, a raid cooldown in Darkness, and mobility that doubles as survival. Many of your defensives can be used purely to reposition out of danger.

Blur~1 min (2 charges)
35% damage reduction + increased dodge for 10s. Two charges means near-constant access — your bread-and-butter personal for spikes and unavoidable hits.
Darkness~3 min
Raid-wide cooldown: a smoke zone giving everyone inside a chance to fully avoid attacks. Drop it for big group-wide damage events — real external value for the party.
Netherwalk~3 min (if talented)
Short full damage immunity that also lets you move — effectively a Blur on steroids for the deadliest mechanics.
Metamorphosis2 min
Grants a large bonus-health buffer on cast in addition to its offensive value — a soft defensive layer during burst.
Desperate Instincts / Soul Rendingpassive
Desperate Instincts auto-triggers Blur at low HP (below ~35%); Soul Rending grants Leech for self-sustain (extra Leech during Meta). Passive durability that smooths chip damage.
Mobility as survival
Fel Rush, Vengeful Retreat, double jump and Glide all reposition you out of harm instantly — the cheapest defensive you have is simply not standing in it.

🧰 Utility & Crowd Control

AbilityUse
DisruptPrimary interrupt (kick). Use a mouseover/focus macro.
Chaos NovaShort AoE stun around you (3-5s with Focused Ire) — pack-wide lockdown / interrupt backup.
ImprisonSingle-target incapacitate; can also be talented to remove Enrage. Pair with /stopcasting.
Sigil of MiseryAoE disarm/fear-style sigil — disrupt a whole pack on a delay.
Sigil of ChainsPulls grouped enemies together (talent) — great for stacking M+ packs for cleave.
Chaos BrandPassive raid buff — your presence increases all Magic damage enemies take. Always-on group value.
Fel Rush / Vengeful RetreatCore low-cooldown mobility; also damage + Initiative proc. Double jump + Glide round out the kit.
Spectral SightSee stealthed/hidden enemies and through walls — niche routing/scouting tool.
Consume MagicPurge an enemy magic buff (Steal). Situational utility dispel.

📊 Stat Priority

Both hero trees share one priority: Agility > Critical Strike > Mastery > Haste > Versatility. Item level beats secondaries — take the higher ilvl piece in almost every case.

  • Critical Strike — the focus stat. Know Your Enemy converts Crit chance into bonus Crit damage at a fixed rate, giving it a multiplicative payoff that holds up even into diminishing returns.
  • Mastery — amplifies all Chaos damage, and several talents convert non-Chaos abilities into Chaos. Fel-Scarred values it slightly more; Aldrachi Reaver leans a touch harder into Crit.
  • Haste — well behind the multipliers, largely because Eye Beam has no haste-based cooldown reduction. Comfort/Fury-flow stat, not a target.
  • Versatility — lowest; not worth seeking out, though it adds a little defense.
📈 Secondary DR onsets (rating): Crit/Mastery ~1380, Haste ~1320, Versatility ~1620 → 10% DR. Crit stays strong through DR thanks to Know Your Enemy, so don't be afraid to stack it.

🎁 Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables

Tier set — Devouring Reaver's (Devourer set, via Catalyst): 2pc = Blade Dance damage +15%. 4pc = +6% additional Haste during Metamorphosis. It's passive power — it does not change your rotation — but the 4pc reinforces your burst window, so the 4-piece is a priority acquisition.

Trinkets: Static guides are light on a single BiS list this tier — Augury is called out as a strong option. Lean on the live panel above for what current top Havoc players are actually running raid vs M+; trust it over a stale list when they disagree.

Consumables: Flask of the Magisters or Flask of the Shattered Sun (roughly equal, gear-dependent) · Damage potion Potion of Recklessness · Health potion Silvermoon Health Potion · Food Harandar Celebration · Weapon oil Thalassian Phoenix Oil (both weapons) · Void-Touched Augment Rune.

Gems: Indecipherable Eversong Diamond (unique primary-stat) + Flawless Masterful Garnet in remaining sockets. Enchants: weapons Jan'alai's Precision + Arcane Mastery · chest Mark of the Worldsoul · legs Forest Hunter's Armor Kit · boots Lynx's Dexterity · rings Eyes of the Eagle · shoulders Amirdrassil's Grace · head Empowered Rune of Avoidance.

🗝️ Mythic+ Tips

  • This is Havoc's home — mobility, on-demand burst AoE and Chaos Brand all shine. You will routinely be a top-half M+ pick.
  • Built-in cleave means almost no AoE setup: Eye Beam + Blade Dance + Immolation Aura already hit the whole pack. Keep Immolation Aura rolling for Ragefire.
  • Sigil of Chains stacks scattered mobs for tighter cleave; Sigil of Misery + Chaos Nova give you strong pack-wide CC/interrupt backup behind Disrupt.
  • Use Darkness proactively on known group-wide damage events — it's a real party cooldown, not just a personal.
  • Fel Rush / Vengeful Retreat double as defensives — pre-plan routes so a dodge also progresses the pull. Don't burn both charges of Fel Rush just to move and then have none for a mechanic.
  • Fel-Scarred is the default for its on-demand burst; bring Aldrachi Reaver only when a key needs sustained priority-target funnel (Wounded Quarry).

⌨️ Macros & Addons

WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) — use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (importable configs on Wago.io). Addons: ElvUI, DBM/BigWigs, GTFO, Plater (M+ nameplates / cleave tracking).

🚫 Common Mistakes

  • Firing cooldowns out of sync — The Hunt, Eye Beam and Metamorphosis should be slammed together so Eternal Hunt empowers Eye Beam and Demonsurge lands inside Meta.
  • Leaving Eye Beam on cooldown — it's the 20s anchor of the whole rotation; a missed cast is a big DPS loss.
  • Wasting the Essence Break window — its 4 seconds must be packed with Death Sweep + Annihilation, not generators.
  • Overcapping Immolation Aura charges (or Fury) — you lose generation; cast at 2 charges and dump Fury into spenders.
  • Burning both Fel Rush charges purely to move, leaving nothing for the next mechanic dodge — treat them as a shared offense/defense/mobility resource.
  • Hoarding Blur and Darkness — two Blur charges and a raid cooldown go to waste if you save them for a 'perfect' moment that never comes; use them on the predictable spikes.
