Enhancement was reworked and pruned in Midnight into the best-rounded melee Shaman — a Maelstrom Weapon builder/spender with strong single-target, frequent cleave bursts, and the full Shaman utility toolkit (Bloodlust, Skyfury, interrupt, stun, Hex). It sits at A in both raid and Mythic+ because its damage is competitive across patchwork and AoE, and its raid utility is near-mandatory. The main caveats are a defensive kit that got thinner post-rework (Stone Bulwark Totem removed) and a busy priority list with a high skill ceiling on Maelstrom timing.

🎲 Bonus Roll Targets where to spend Nebulous Voidcores

As of Patch 12.0.5, the Nebulous Voidcore lets you target gear via Bonus Loot rolls after Season 1 Raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunts — a controlled way to chase Enhancement BiS rather than waiting on the Vault. A Bonus Roll after a M+ dungeon awards the Great Vault item level for that keystone level, so +10 and above can drop 1/6 Myth-track pieces. Spend weekly cores on the two slots that matter most: a passive stat-stick trinket to pair with your on-use Algeth'ar Puzzle Box, and the Catalyst-bound tier (Locus of the Primal Core) for the full 4pc.

Best M+ roll target. Rolls pay out at your keystone's Great Vault item level, so push +10 or higher for Myth-track pieces — this is also where you grind raw ilvl upgrades, which after the stat squish almost always win for Enhancement.

Almost everything (avoid Sporecaller's Blooming Loop)
Safe catch-up roll on a short table — as long as you dodge the Sporecaller's Blooming Loop, the rest is useful gear or tier-track armor to round out your 4pc.
💡 Roll where the useful table is smallest — a boss whose drops are mostly the trinket/tier you want beats one with ten pieces you'll vendor. Pick the toggle for the content you actually run.

🚀 Opener

Pre-pull your on-use trinket (Algeth'ar Puzzle Box) and front-load Surging Totem + Doom Winds so the burst window lands immediately. Pop potion/racial with Doom Winds (Totemic) or Ascendance (Stormbringer). This is the Totemic line; Stormbringer is similar but fishes harder for Tempest.

  1. Pre-cast Algeth'ar Puzzle Box just before the pull
  2. Voltaic Blaze (apply Flame Shock) en route
  3. Surging Totem (drop it for the burst window)
  4. Sundering
  5. Lava Lash to trigger Hot Hand

⚔️ Single-Target Priority

Builder/spender: bank Maelstrom Weapon and spend at 10 stacks (5+ to avoid overcapping). Never hard-cast a spell below 5 stacks — it resets your swing timer and wastes generation. Spending fuels Elemental Tempo cooldown reduction.

The moment a second target exists, swap your Maelstrom spender to Chain Lightning and keep Crash Lightning's splash buff up at all times. Stormbringer shines at 5-6 targets via Tempest; Totemic leans on Surging Totem + Fire Nova/Lava Lash spread.

⏱️ Cooldowns

Line your burst with Bloodlust/Heroism, on-use trinket, potion and racial. Totemic runs a tight 1-minute Doom Winds window; Stormbringer stacks a bigger 2-minute Ascendance window. Don't sit on cooldowns waiting for perfect alignment outside of pre-pull.

Core burst. Hugely increases Windfury Weapon proc chance and generates Maelstrom over its duration. Pair with Surging Totem and Hot Hand for the Totemic 1-minute window; spend Maelstrom aggressively while it's up.
Surging Totem~60s (Totemic)
Drops a totem that mirrors your Lava Lash / Crash Lightning hits and anchors the Totemic burst. Reposition-friendly AoE; refresh on cooldown and keep it inside the pack.
Ascendance2 min
Stormstrike becomes Windstrike (no cooldown, off the GCD pressure) and Thorim's Invocation auto-spends Maelstrom into Lightning Bolt/Chain Lightning. The defining Stormbringer 2-minute burst — stack trinket + Lust here.
Sundering~20s
Frontal-cone smash that hits hard, triggers Surging Elements / Earth Mote procs, and is a strong cleave button. Used on cooldown in every build.
Feral Spiriton CD
Summons wolves that generate Maelstrom Weapon and add sustained damage; a passive throughput cooldown worth hitting on cooldown (talented in most builds).
Primordial Wave / Primordial Stormin rotation
Empowers your next spender into a large burst and spreads Flame Shock. Fire it at 10 Maelstrom stacks inside the burst window before the buff expires.

💚 Defensive Toolkit

The Midnight rework thinned Enhancement's defenses — Stone Bulwark Totem was removed and Earth Elemental nerfed. Astral Shift is your only real wall, so plan it for telegraphed hits and lean on self-heals + positioning.

Your main personal — a flat damage-reduction wall. Pre-press it for known big hits; it's your only true defensive cooldown, so don't waste it.
Healing SurgeMaelstrom spend
Spend Maelstrom Weapon stacks for a large instant self-heal — your emergency button when low. Costs throughput, so use it to survive, not to top off.
Earth Elemental~5 min
Summons a tanky elemental that pulls aggro / soaks for a moment. Nerfed in Midnight but still useful as a panic taunt/soak; talent Primordial Bond adds DR while it's active.
Stone Bulwark Totemremoved
No longer in the kit as of the Midnight rework — don't go looking for it. Its loss is the main reason the spec feels squishier than last expansion.
Reincarnation (Ankh)30 min
Shaman self-battle-rez — your get-out-of-death-free button on a long cooldown. Saves a wipe / combat rez in both raid and M+.
Spirit Walk~60s
Removes movement-impairing effects and grants a move-speed burst — doubles as a survival tool to escape ground effects and reposition out of danger.

🧰 Utility & Crowd Control

📊 Stat Priority

General priority: Item Level / Agility > Mastery > Haste > Critical Strike > Versatility. After the Midnight stat squish, Agility is far more valuable than before, so ilvl upgrades almost always win.

  • Mastery — consistently the strongest secondary. A large chunk of your damage comes from Windfury Weapon and magic abilities (especially on Totemic), which Mastery scales directly.
  • Haste — close behind Mastery. Speeds up auto-attacks and Maelstrom Weapon generation, fueling Totemic Momentum and your spenders.
  • Critical Strike — third, not far below Haste, with extra scaling from Supportive Imbuements.
  • Versatility — bottom of the pile for damage, but it comes with a defensive benefit, which matters given the thin defensive kit.
Mastery and Haste are close enough that you should generally take the higher item level and not reforge around a hard breakpoint. Stormbringer values a touch more Haste for Maelstrom throughput; Totemic leans hardest into Mastery.

🎁 Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables

Tier set (Locus of the Primal Core, via Catalyst): 2pc = Stormstrike and Lava Lash deal +15% damage. 4pc = the weapon-enhancement buff from Crash Lightning additionally grants +2% Mastery per stack — pushing you toward keeping Crash Lightning's buff at full stacks. A strong, easy-to-use set; run the full 4pc (off-piece legs are fine to optimize Haste/Mastery).

Top trinkets: on-use Algeth'ar Puzzle Box (premier M+ on-use, line it with your burst) paired with a passive stat stick — Gaze of the Alnseer or Radiant Plume (roughly equal) for raid, plus Umbral Plume, Emberwing Feather, Solarflare Prism and Heart of Wind as alternatives. Pair one on-use with one passive.

Consumables: Flask Light's Potential (pair the proc with Lust + cooldowns) · Combat potion Light's Potential-tier Agility potion · Food a primary-stat feast (Hearty Silvermoon Parade / Royal Roast) for Agility · plus an Agility augment rune. Imbues: keep Windfury Weapon (main hand) + Flametongue Weapon (off hand) up at all times.

🗝️ Mythic+ Tips

  • Pick your hero tree by route: Stormbringer for planned pulls and 5-6 target packs (Tempest + Chain Lightning); Totemic for pug-friendly 1-minute burst and flexible AoE.
  • Keep Crash Lightning's weapon buff at 100% uptime in any multi-target pull — it powers your splash and (with 4pc) your Mastery stacking.
  • Spread Flame Shock with Voltaic Blaze across the pack to enable Fire Nova; it's a big chunk of free AoE.
  • Use Wind Shear liberally — your interrupt has a short cooldown, so cover kicks others miss. Macro it to mouseover/focus.
  • Capacitor Totem (CD reduced by Static Charge) + Earthgrab Totem give you strong pack control; Thunderstorm displaces or kicks casters off platforms.
  • Don't hard-cast spenders below 5 Maelstrom stacks — it stops your auto-attacks and tanks your generation. Spend at 10, dump at 5+ only to avoid overcap.
  • Save Astral Shift for telegraphed AoE — it's your only real wall, so dying with it up is the most avoidable death.

WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) — use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (importable configs on Wago.io) to track Maelstrom Weapon stacks, Hot Hand, and Crash Lightning. Addons: ElvUI, DBM/BigWigs, Plater, OmniCD.

🚫 Common Mistakes

  • Hard-casting spenders below 5 Maelstrom Weapon stacks — it resets your swing timer and craters your generation. Build to 10, dump at 5+ only to avoid overcapping.
  • Letting Crash Lightning's weapon buff drop in AoE — you lose splash damage and (with 4pc) Mastery stacks.
  • Forgetting to spread Flame Shock with Voltaic Blaze, so Fire Nova does nothing on big pulls.
  • Misaligning burst — firing Doom Winds/Ascendance without Surging Totem, trinket, and Lust lined up wastes your biggest damage window.
  • Looking for Stone Bulwark Totem — it was removed in the rework; Astral Shift + Healing Surge are your defenses now.
  • Sitting on Astral Shift and dying to a telegraphed hit, or burning Maelstrom on Healing Surge when you weren't actually in danger.
  • Letting Windfury/Flametongue weapon imbues fall off — they are a large, easy source of passive damage.
