Discipline Priest Guide
Discipline is Midnight's premier raid-stacking healer: it heals by dealing damage through Atonement, layers huge absorbs via the new Void Shield mechanic, and brings the unmatched utility package of Power Infusion, Pain Suppression, Power Word: Barrier and Rapture. That toolkit makes it a near-mandatory raid pick (S tier). In Mythic+ it is merely good rather than dominant — its throughput is bursty and tied to ramps, so it sits a tier below the best dungeon healers (A).

📊 Stat Priority
Priority: Intellect (item level) > Haste > Critical Strike ≥ Mastery > Versatility.
- Item Level / Intellect — by far your biggest upgrade, especially early in the tier. Equip the higher ilvl piece almost every time.
- Haste — the best secondary: more casts, faster GCDs, reduced CD on Power Word: Shield / Penance / Mind Blast, more Shadow Word: Pain ticks and more Mindbender swings. Even more valuable on Voidweaver, which leans hard on Mind Blast.
- Critical Strike — scales the spec well and uniquely also boosts your damage (and therefore Atonement healing); edges out Mastery for that reason.
- Mastery: Grace — increases healing done to targets with your Atonement. Solid but passive.
- Versatility — your weakest stat, but the safety stat: it adds personal/party survivability, so favor it slightly when pushing very high keys.
🎁 Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables
Tier set — Blind Oath's (via Catalyst if needed): 2pc = Flash Heal, Shadow Mend and Power Word: Radiance healing increased by 25%. 4pc = Atonement applied by Flash Heal and Power Word: Radiance lasts an additional 3 sec — a big deal in raid, where longer Atonement windows make every ramp hit harder. Prioritize the 4pc.
Top trinkets (raid): Vaelgor's Final Stare (on-use, ~1.5m, lines up with Evangelism windows) and Gaze of the Alnseer (proc secondary stats) are S-tier. Alternatives: Litany of Lightblind Wrath, Locus-Walker's Ribbon, Heart of Wind. Mythic+: prioritize Litany of Lightblind Wrath as your on-use over Vaelgor's.
Crafted / embellishments: craft the two-hand Aln'hara Cane with Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt first, then Arcanoweave Cord (belt) for a second embellishment slot.
Consumables: Flask of the Blood Knights · combat potion Potion of Recklessness (or Potion of Devoured Dreams for channeled mana) · health potion Silvermoon Health Potion · mana potion Lightfused Mana Potion · food Royal Roast / Feast · Void-Touched Augment Rune. Gems: Telluric Eversong Diamond (unique, mana) + Flawless Quick Amethyst / Flawless Masterful Peridot (Haste-leaning). Enchants: weapon Acuity of the Ren'dorei · chest Mark of the Worldsoul · legs Arcanoweave Spellthread · rings Silvermoon's Alacrity · boots Lynx's Dexterity.

Real WarcraftLogs flask usage: Flask of the Shattered Sun 58% · Flask of the Blood Knights 42%
Flask of the Shattered Sun is the top pick for the crit it gives Discipline; swap to Flask of Thalassian Resistance for the defensive Versatility option on heavy-damage fights.
Eat the Harandar Celebration feast for the Well Fed buff that increases your primary stat (Intellect).
Pop Light's Potential during a damage or healing burst window; keep a Silvermoon Health Potion and a Demonic Healthstone for emergencies and use a Void-Touched Augment Rune for the extra stats.
Top Disc parses run Flask of the Shattered Sun (crit); swap to Flask of Thalassian Resistance for a defensive Versatility option on hard hits.
🚀 Opener & Pull Ramp
Disc's opener is a true ramp, not a light pre-cast: you must blanket the group in Atonement BEFORE the first hit, because nothing you press after the pull heals anyone who isn't already carrying the buff. Spend the seconds before the pull applying Atonement via Radiance and Shields, then weave damage to convert it the moment the pack hits the group.
- A few GCDs before the pull,
Power Word: Radiance ×2 over the stacked group to blanket wide
Atonement - Power Word: Shield the tank and any frontline players (this also feeds your first Void Shield procs)
- Top up
Atonement coverage with
Plea /
Flash Heal on anyone still missing the buff - Shadow Word: Pain on the first target as you engage so
Expiation healing is already rolling - Open damage with
Mind Blast →
Penance →
Shadow Word: Death to convert
Atonement into healing on the pull
Smite (or
Void Blast inside an
Entropic Rift) as filler while everyone is topped — hold
Evangelism for the first real spike, not the pull
🔄 Atonement & Damage Priority
Discipline heals through damage: apply Atonement to allies, then deal damage to convert it into healing. There is no separate 'healing rotation' outside of ramps — your damage priority IS your healing throughput. Apply Atonement via Power Word: Shield, Power Word: Radiance, Flash Heal, Plea and Penance (on allies); then run the damage priority below. Press Power Word: Shield on cooldown to keep Void Shield procs flowing (Master the Darkness upgrades it).
- Maintain Shadow Word: Pain on targets (refresh, don't clip) — it feeds
Expiation healing
Penance — your primary damage +
Atonement-healing button (
Twinsight makes it do both); use on cooldown- Void Shield procs — spend them; each applies 3 Atonements at once plus a big absorb (proactive ramp tool)
Shadow Word: Death — strong damage even outside execute range (
Expiation triggers ~3 heals per cast)
Mind Blast — on cooldown (and the
Entropic Rift trigger if Voidweaver)
Power Word: Radiance — AoE
Atonement application before a damage burst (2 charges)
Smite (or
Void Blast inside an
Entropic Rift) — filler damage that still heals via
Atonement- Refresh Atonements before they expire — track the buff count, ramp ahead of incoming raid damage
💥 Raid Ramp & AoE Healing
This is Disc's signature move and where the spec wins or loses: stack as many Atonements as possible just before scripted raid-wide damage, then burst-convert them with Evangelism and a flood of damage casts as the hit lands. Start the ramp a few GCDs early — Atonement applied after the spike heals nothing meaningful.
- Refresh Shadow Word: Pain on the boss so
Expiation is feeding heals through the ramp
Power Word: Radiance ×2 across the raid stack for the widest
Atonement blanket (4pc extends these by 3s)- Power Word: Shield the group — pop Rapture first for a free, chain-cast shield wall and extra Void Shield ramp
- Spend Void Shield procs — each one slaps 3 Atonements plus a big absorb onto the group at once
Plea /
Flash Heal to patch anyone still missing the buff before the hit
Evangelism right before the damage to extend every active
Atonement through the spike- As the hit lands, chain
Mind Blast →
Shadow Word: Death →
Penance to burst-convert
Atonement into raid healing - Layer
Power Word: Barrier on the stack (or
Ultimate Penitence for a wide AoE damage-and-heal cone) for the heaviest windows
⏱️ Healing & Raid Cooldowns
Disc lives and dies by cooldown timing — pre-ramp Atonement before scripted raid damage, then fire the right CD into the spike. Don't sit on Evangelism; it has the shortest leash of the big buttons.
💧 Mana, Triage & Raid Ramp
Discipline is a proactive burst healer — its strength is converting pre-applied Atonement into a wall of healing exactly when scripted damage lands. That means knowing the encounter is the real skill: you ramp before the hit, not after.
The raid ramp (Evangelism build), run a few GCDs before the damage event:
- Refresh Shadow Word: Pain on the boss
- Penance (keeps the damage flowing while you ramp)
- Power Word: Shield on a stacked group / Power Word: Radiance ×2 for wide Atonement
- Plea / Flash Heal to top off Atonement coverage
- Evangelism to extend every Atonement through the spike
- Mind Blast → Shadow Word: Death → Penance as the damage hits, converting Atonement into healing
Mana / triage: Power Word: Shield, Penance and your damage rotation are efficient; Flash Heal and Shadow Mend are your expensive panic buttons — lean on them only when Atonement healing can't keep someone up. Mindbender/Shadowfiend returns mana, so keep it on cooldown. In long fights, ration the big direct heals and let Atonement carry the steady damage.
🩹 Core Healing Spells
Disc's 'heals' are really Atonement-application tools plus a damage kit that converts that buff into healing. Lead with the application + damage spells and save the direct casts for emergencies — hard-casting heals every GCD means your ramp was too late.
💚 Personal Defensives
Disc can shield and reduce damage on itself like anyone else, plus it has its own emergency heal. Pre-layer these on predictable hits aimed at you so you can keep ramping instead of scrambling to self-heal.
🧰 Utility & Crowd Control
| Ability | Use |
|---|---|
| No hard interrupt | Priest has NO kick. 'Interrupt' duty is covered by Psychic Scream (fear) or a stun from the group — plan kicks onto your DPS. |
| Mass Dispel | Group-wide magic dispel — one of Disc's best utilities. Trivializes encounters/affixes that stack removable magic debuffs across the party. |
| Purify / Dispel Magic | Purify cleanses Magic + Disease (Improved Purify) on allies; Dispel Magic strips harmful enemy buffs. Click-cast for speed. |
| Psychic Scream | AoE fear (~30s CD) — peel, create space, or interrupt-by-fear a caster pack. Core M+ disrupt. |
| Shackle Undead | Single-target CC vs Undead/Aberration — niche, good for skips and pull control. |
| Mind Soothe | Reduces enemy aggro range — used to skip or thin packs in Mythic+. |
| Power Infusion | +25% haste external on a DPS (or self via Twins of the Sun Priestess). 2 min CD, raid/key throughput. |
| Leap of Faith | 'Grip' an ally out of bad / to safety — repositioning and mechanic saves. |
| Fade | Threat drop; with Translucent Image talent it's a ~10% personal DR button on a short CD. |
| Desperate Prayer | Personal emergency: instant heal + temporary max-HP increase. |
🗝️ Mythic+ Tips
Shadow Word: Death is your primary damage button even outside execute range —
Expiation makes it heal ~3 times per cast. Keep it and Shadow Word: Pain rolling on the pack.- Deploy Void Shield PROACTIVELY before a known burst — it applies 3 Atonements at once plus a large absorb, making it your key dungeon ramp tool.
Mass Dispel is one of your strongest tools: clear party-wide removable magic debuffs in one global.
Improved Purify handles Disease per dungeon.- You have NO interrupt — assign kicks to DPS and cover gaps with
Psychic Scream (fear) or a group stun.
Mind Soothe and Shackle Undead help skip/control packs. - Send
Power Infusion to a burst DPS every 2 min (pair with
Twins of the Sun Priestess to also buff yourself);
Power Word: Barrier the group for scripted AoE soaks. - Consider shifting secondaries toward Versatility only at very high keys for the extra survivability — situational, not the default. Oracle is the smoother pick; Voidweaver for max AoE throughput on big pulls.
As of Patch 12.0.5, the Nebulous Voidcore lets you target gear via Bonus Loot rolls after Season 1 Raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunts — a controlled way to chase Discipline BiS instead of praying to normal drops. A Bonus Roll after a M+ dungeon awards the Great Vault item level for that keystone level, so +10 and above can give 1/6 Myth-track pieces. Disc lives on on-use trinkets that line up with Evangelism, so spend weekly cores on those trinkets and the Blind Oath's 4pc that lengthens your Atonement windows.
⌨️ Macros & Addons
WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) — use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (importable configs on Wago.io) to track Atonement count and ramp CDs. Addons: ElvUI or VuhDo/Grid2 for click-casting dispels and externals, DBM/BigWigs for ramp timing, OmniCD for raid cooldown tracking.

🚫 Common Mistakes
- Ramping too late —
Atonement must be on the raid BEFORE the damage event. Pressing
Evangelism after the hit heals nothing meaningful. - Spamming
Flash Heal /
Shadow Mend like a reactive healer — it drains mana and ignores your damage-to-heal engine. They are panic buttons, not your rotation. - Letting Atonements expire on the wrong players — track the buff count and refresh ahead of the next spike.
- Sitting on cooldowns —
Evangelism,
Power Infusion and Premonition are short-CD throughput; unused uptime is lost healing. - Dropping Power Word: Shield casts — it feeds Void Shield procs (
Master the Darkness); skip it and your absorb/ramp output collapses. - Forgetting you have no interrupt — relying on yourself to kick a caster you physically can't, instead of assigning it or using
Psychic Scream.
