Preservation Evoker Guide
Preservation is a setup-driven "prepare first, heal second" healer that pre-loads Echoes before predictable damage and cashes them all at once for a huge raid burst. That ramp identity plus elite utility โ Rescue, Time Dilation externals, and Time Spiral โ keeps it strongly in demand for raid. In Mythic+ the same heavy setup is its weakness: spot-healing chaotic, unpredictable pull damage with a ramp toolkit is clunky and reactive, which is why it sits much lower in keys this season.
As of Patch 12.0.5, the Nebulous Voidcore lets you target gear via Bonus Loot rolls after Season 1 Raid bosses, Mythic+ dungeons, Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunts โ a controlled way to chase Preservation BiS. A Bonus Roll after a M+ dungeon awards the Great Vault item level for that keystone level, so +10 and above can give 1/6 Myth-track pieces. As a healer, spend your weekly cores on on-use throughput trinkets that line up with your ramp windows and on completing the Verdant Embrace tier set.

๐ Opener & Pull Ramp
Preservation opens by building a wall of Echoes and HoTs in the lead-in seconds, then releasing it onto the first damage. The signature open is a Stasis pre-load: bank your big spells before the pull, blanket the group with Echoes via Temporal Anomaly, then unleash the stored cast and a fresh Verdant Embrace so a huge multi-target heal lands exactly on the first hit (your tier 4pc grows a free Emerald Blossom off it). Don't seed too early โ Echoes expire, so time the ramp ~5s out.
- A few seconds before the pull, open Stasis and store three spells into it โ Verdant Embrace, Dream Breath, then Spiritbloom (release order matches store order)
- Cast Temporal Anomaly through the group so the orb seeds 50%-strength Echoes on up to 5 allies
- Apply Reversion to the tank (double-stack) and to priority targets so Grace Period and Merithra's Blessing are live
- Spend spare Essence on Echo to pre-place full-strength Echoes on the targets about to take damage
- As the first hit lands, release Stasis โ the stored Verdant Embrace replicates through every Echo for a massive group heal (and triggers Twin Echoes via the 4pc)
- Fire Dream Breath for its front-loaded burst HoT and the guaranteed Merithra's Blessing proc, then consume remaining Echoes with Merithra's Blessing on the lowest targets
- Pre-cast Time Dilation on whoever is tagged for the heaviest hit so the external DR is already ticking
- Once everyone is topped, swap to damage โ Fire Breath and Living Flame โ so you bank Essence and mana for the next ramp
๐ Healing & Damage Priority
Preservation has no fixed rotation โ it's a small set of spells played in the right order around a ramp. The core loop: spend downtime building Echoes with Echo + Temporal Anomaly, then convert them to healing when damage lands (usually via Merithra's Blessing / Reversion). Keep your HoTs rolling and spend Essence Bursts efficiently. When no healing is needed, deal damage to regen mana.
- Keep Stasis on cooldown โ store 3 spells now, release a free triple-heal into the next damage window
- Keep Temporal Anomaly on cooldown โ it reduces Dream Breath's cooldown AND spreads 50%-strength Echoes raid-wide
- Keep Dream Breath on cooldown (cast at Rank 1 in most raid cases) โ front-loaded burst that grants a Merithra's Blessing proc
- Maintain Reversion on important targets (double-stack on the tank) โ it generates Essence Burst and powers Grace Period / Merithra's Blessing
- Spend Essence Burst procs on Emerald Blossom first (it costs the most mana, so it gains the most from being free; no longer consumes Echoes in Midnight)
- Build Echoes with Echo using spare Essence before predicted damage
- Consume Echoes with Merithra's Blessing (bounces to lowest-health allies) or Reversion when damage hits
- Cast Verdant Embrace between ramps โ your strongest reliable single-target heal (tier set makes it grow an Emerald Blossom)
- Use Tip the Scales for an instant max-rank Empower in emergencies
- DAMAGE / mana regen when healing is light: Fire Breath on cooldown, Deep Breath at 2+ targets, Disintegrate (Energy Loop mana), Living Flame filler (Leaping Flames procs)
๐ฅ Raid Ramp & AoE Healing
This is Preservation's whole identity: pre-load before a scripted raid hit and cash everything the instant it lands. The Echo ramp is the engine โ Echo + Temporal Anomaly seed Echoes across the raid, then Dream Breath / Spiritbloom / Verdant Embrace replicate through every Echo at once for a wall of healing. Stasis pre-loading lets you bank that combo and re-fire it for free. Spread separate ramps across each damage event rather than blowing everything on one spike.
- ~5s before the hit, pre-load Stasis with your ramp combo โ store Verdant Embrace, Dream Breath and Spiritbloom so you can re-release the whole burst on the damage
- Cast Temporal Anomaly through the raid to spread 50%-strength Echoes onto up to 5 allies (and shave Dream Breath's cooldown)
- Spend Essence on Echo to layer full-strength Echoes on the targets that will take the most damage
- As damage lands, release Stasis โ the stored Verdant Embrace and empowers replicate through every Echo simultaneously for the big AoE pop
- Empower Spiritbloom (Rank 1โ2 for spread, higher ranks to focus a clustered group) for split smart-healing across the raid
- Cast Dream Breath for its front-loaded burst HoT, then consume the leftover Echoes with Merithra's Blessing as it bounces to the lowest-health allies
- Layer Rewind if the raid is still dipping after the pop, or Dream Flight / Emerald Communion for a sustained follow-up window
- Drop Zephyr (and Time Dilation on a key target) when the AoE is stacked so the ramp heals into reduced incoming damage
โฑ๏ธ Healing & Raid Cooldowns
Your power is in proactive cooldown sequencing. Pre-load before known damage rather than reacting. Stasis and Temporal Anomaly should be used on cooldown; the rest are saved for damage events.
๐ฉน Core Healing Spells
Preservation's kit is small but every spell feeds the ramp. Know what each one is for, mind the 25-yard range on most heals (you have to stay close to your targets), and remember Empower spells (Dream Breath / Spiritbloom) are held-button casts whose rank you choose on the fly.
๐ง Mana, Triage & Ramp
Preservation is a ramp healer: it under-heals during calm windows and over-heals into scripted damage. Trying to spot-heal everything reactively burns mana for almost no value โ patience IS the playstyle.
- Anticipate the damage. Before a known hit, spend the lead-in seconds seeding Echoes with Echo and Temporal Anomaly, and load Stasis with your big spells.
- Convert on impact. When damage lands, cash the Echoes with Merithra's Blessing/Reversion, release Stasis, and fire Dream Breath โ a wall of healing arrives all at once.
- Coast between ramps. Use single-target tools (Verdant Embrace, Echo โ Reversion) for chip damage and dump everything else into damage.
Essence efficiency drives mana: always spend Essence Burst procs on Emerald Blossom first โ it's your most mana-hungry spell, so making it free is the single biggest saving you have.
Emerald Communion is your hard mana reset โ channel it during any safe lull to refill, but only when you can afford the channel (it locks you to a sustained heal and limited mobility).
๐ Personal Defensives
Preservation survives damage it expects far better than damage it reacts to โ pre-cast these on predictable hits so you can keep ramping instead of scrambling. Obsidian Scales paired with Renewing Blaze is your bread-and-butter mitigation.
๐งฐ Utility & Crowd Control
| Ability | Use |
|---|---|
| Quell | Interrupt (40s CD, 25yd range). Locks the school for 4s. Ranged kick โ use a mouseover/focus macro. |
| Naturalize | Your dispel โ removes Magic AND Poison from an ally (Expunge upgraded to Naturalize for Preservation). Core for dispellable affixes. |
| Cauterizing Flame | Off-school cleanse (~1 min) โ removes Bleed, Poison, Curse, Disease and heals. A free extra dispel on top of Naturalize. |
| Rescue | Grip an ally to your cursor (the signature Preservation save) โ yoink someone out of fire/a mechanic. Top-tier raid utility. |
| Time Dilation | External DR (~50s, ~50% effective DR on the target while active). Just In Time gives a 2nd charge + lowers CD. Pre-cast on whoever takes a big hit. |
| Zephyr | Raid-wide 20% AoE DR for you + 4 nearest allies, 8s. |
| Oppressing Roar | AoE CC-duration extension; can also dispel Enrage effects. |
| Landslide / Deep Breath | Landslide roots a line of enemies; Deep Breath stuns with Terror of the Skies. Soft CC for keys. |
| Hover | Core mobility โ +30% move speed and cast-while-moving for non-Empower spells. Use proactively, never sit still healing. |
| Time Spiral / Blessing of the Bronze | Raid utility buffs โ movement/CD tools that make Preservation desirable in organized groups. |
๐ Stat Priority
Priority: Intellect > Mastery > Critical Strike > Haste > Versatility.
- Mastery โ the primary target; stack as much as possible. It gives the largest healing increase (heals harder the higher your health % is vs the target's). Caveat: it grants no damage, so it's slightly weaker in damage-dump windows โ but for raw throughput it's #1.
- Critical Strike โ boosts heal/damage and extends HoTs like Reversion and Dream Breath on crit. Held back by a large chunk of your healing being non-critable, but still the best balanced secondary.
- Haste โ faster casts/GCDs and lowers cooldowns on Temporal Anomaly and Verdant Embrace (those have duration caps to prevent infinite uptime). Smooths the rotation.
- Versatility โ "by far the least interesting stat"; only worth it in extreme M+ survivability situations.
DR breakpoints (rating): Mastery/Crit 1380 โ 1840 โ 2300; Haste 1320 โ 1760 โ 2200; Vers 1620 โ 2160 โ 2700. Don't gear around these over item level.
๐ Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables
Tier set (via Catalyst): 2pc = Verdant Embrace heals 20% more and its cooldown is reduced 2s. 4pc = Verdant Embrace also grows a free Emerald Blossom on the target at 100% effectiveness. Both pieces are strongly recommended โ they make Verdant Embrace a centerpiece of your single-target and ramp toolkit and feed the Twin Echoes loop.
Trinkets: the live panel above reflects what current top Preservation Evokers are running โ prioritize on-use throughput trinkets that line up with your ramp windows plus a passive stat (Mastery) stick. Trust the meta panel over any static BiS when they disagree.
Embellishment: Blessed Pango Charm (grants Versatility to your heal targets) โ craft on two slots (both rings, or a ring + neck). Gems: Cognitive Heliotrope in the meta slot, Flawless Quick Lapis (Haste) or a Mastery cut in the rest. Consumables: Flask of the Shattered Sun ยท an Intellect food (Hearty Silvermoon Parade / Royal Roast) ยท Void-Touched Augment Rune ยท weapon oil (Thalassian Phoenix Oil). Note cloak/bracer have no enchants this expansion.
๐๏ธ Mythic+ Tips
- Layer 1 (maintenance): keep a rolling Reversion blanket on the group and double-stack Reversion on the tank for Grace Period amplification.
- Layer 2 (damage response): Dream Breath โ seed Echoes โ consume with Merithra's Blessing / Verdant Embrace on the spike. Pre-ramp into known pull/boss damage rather than reacting.
- Your ramp is your weakness in keys โ chaotic, unpredictable pull damage punishes setup. Lean on instant tools (Verdant Embrace, Living Flame, Emerald Blossom emergency heal) when you can't pre-build.
- Use Time Dilation proactively on whoever's about to eat a big hit โ it's effectively ~50% DR; Just In Time gives a 2nd charge for two targets.
- Rescue is a free 'get out of the bad' for a teammate โ grip people out of mechanics, off edges, or into the group.
- Dispel discipline: Naturalize covers Magic + Poison; Cauterizing Flame is a free extra cleanse for Bleed/Curse/Disease โ split duties so you're never the only line.
- Quell is a ranged interrupt โ set up a mouseover/focus kick and contribute to the interrupt rotation; you don't have to be in melee.
- Chronowarden is the M+ default for its burst; Flameshaper only if you specifically want the extra Dream Breath charge and Obsidian Scales externals on a smoother route.
โจ๏ธ Macros & Addons
WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) โ use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (importable configs on Wago.io). Addons: ElvUI, DBM/BigWigs, Cell or Grid2 (+ click-casting for Rescue / dispels), OmniCD for tracking external cooldowns.

๐ซ Common Mistakes
- Reactive spot-healing instead of ramping โ Preservation is 'prepare first, heal second.' Spamming heals at low health without a built ramp wastes mana for tiny output.
- Pre-ramping too early โ Echoes and Temporal Anomaly orbs expire; seed them seconds before the hit, not 15-20s out, or the whole setup falls off before the damage.
- Spending Essence Burst on the wrong spell โ always feed it to Emerald Blossom first (most mana-hungry), not Echo, or you leak mana.
- Forgetting to deal damage โ Living Flame / Disintegrate / Fire Breath are part of your mana economy; idling during calm windows starves you for the next ramp.
- Holding Rewind / Stasis 'for later' โ these are your biggest saves; using them a beat late after a spike loses the whole window. Deploy into the damage, not after.
- Letting Reversion fall off the tank โ the double-Reversion + Grace Period base is what makes everything else (Merithra's Blessing) pay off; never let it lapse.
- Standing still to heal โ Hover lets you cast non-Empower spells while moving; eating avoidable damage because you parked is a top death cause.
