Devourer Demon Hunter Guide
Devourer is Midnight's brand-new third Demon Hunter spec — a mid-range, Intellect-based caster/melee hybrid that fights with Void magic instead of Fel. It is a dual-resource spec: you weave Fury and Soul Fragments together, spending Fury on Void Ray to generate Souls, then cashing those Souls into Void Metamorphosis — a demon-form burst window where you cram in as many Collapsing Stars as possible before it expires. The Annihilator hero tree (keystone Voidfall, shared with Vengeance) is significantly ahead of Void-Scarred in every Season 1 encounter, giving Devourer top-tier single-target and cleave, which is why it opens the patch as a premier S-tier DPS pick in both raid and Mythic+.

📊 Stat Priority
Devourer is Intellect-based (unusual for a Demon Hunter): Intellect is your strongest stat and item level beats secondaries — take the higher-ilvl piece in almost every case.
- Intellect — your primary stat; more is almost always an upgrade.
- Critical Strike — the standout secondary. The Midnight Apex talent adds Critical Strike damage to Collapsing Star, your biggest hit, giving Crit a multiplicative payoff.
- Haste / Mastery — round out the kit (Haste smooths Fury flow and Soul generation; Mastery amplifies your Void damage). Their exact order is close and shifts with tuning.
- Versatility — lowest priority offensively, though it adds a little defense.
🎁 Tier Set, Trinkets & Consumables
Tier set (via the Catalyst): 2pc increases Void Ray damage by 10%. 4pc increases Collapsing Star damage by 10% and makes it generate 10 Fury — that Fury refund directly helps you sustain Void Metamorphosis, so the 4-piece is a priority acquisition.
Trinkets: Vaelgor's Final Stare is called out as a strong on-use that lines up cleanly with your Void Metamorphosis burst. Beyond that, lean on the live panel above for what current top Devourer players are actually running in raid vs Mythic+ — trust it over any static list when they disagree, especially this early in the patch.
Consumables (Intellect): use an Intellect flask, an Intellect combat potion (e.g. Potion of Recklessness for the burst window), a primary-stat food, weapon oil on both weapons, and an augment rune. The live Consumables block on this page shows what the sampled top players are currently using once data populates.
🚀 Opener
The goal is to bank Souls fast, then dump your whole burst (trinket + potion + The Hunt) into your first Void Metamorphosis. Build Fury and Souls in the seconds before the pull so you can transform almost immediately.
- Pre-build Fury / Souls just before the pull
- Voidblade right before transforming
The Hunt (charge in and open the burst window)- Void
Metamorphosis (with
Vaelgor's Final Stare + Potion of
Recklessness) - Void Ray at 100+ Fury
- Soul Immolation if it isn't active
Consume to spend Souls and feed
Voidfall- Collapsing Star once you reach 30 Souls inside the form
- Continue the single-target priority below
⚔️ Single-Target Priority
Devourer is two rotations stitched together. OUTSIDE Void Metamorphosis you cycle Fury into Void Ray to generate Souls and build toward your transformation. INSIDE the form you balance Fury to sustain it while casting as many Collapsing Stars as you can before it runs out.
- Outside form — Reap (or Eradicate) at 3
Voidfall stacks or when it funds a Void Ray - Outside form — Void Ray at 100+ Fury (your main Soul generator)
- Outside form — Soul Immolation if it isn't active
- Outside form —
Consume to spend Souls and build
Voidfall - Enter Void
Metamorphosis at 50 Souls (35 with Soul Glutton), aligned with cooldowns - Inside form — Void Ray on cooldown
- Inside form — Cull at 4 Soul Fragments or before charges overcap
- Inside form — Reap at 3
Voidfall stacks (
Annihilator) - Inside form — Collapsing Star at 30 Souls
- Inside form — Devour as the filler
💥 AoE / Multi-Target Priority
On packs you swap your single-target generator/spender for the cleave versions — Hungering Slash and Eradicate — and lean on Collapsing Star, which is your strongest multi-target tool inside the demon form.
- Outside form — Hungering Slash to gather Fury/Souls across the pack
- Outside form —
The Hunt to open the burst window - Outside form — Voidblade right before Void
Metamorphosis - Outside form — Eradicate at 3
Voidfall stacks (or at 60 Fury and 10 Souls) - Outside form — Void Ray to spend overflow Fury
- Enter Void
Metamorphosis with your trinket + potion - Inside form — Collapsing Star as you approach the 40-Soul cap (top AoE)
- Inside form — Cull / Eradicate at 3
Voidfall stacks - Inside form — Void Ray on cooldown
- Inside form — Devour as the filler
⏱️ Cooldowns
Your throughput lives and dies by Void Metamorphosis windows. Bank Souls, line your trinket + potion + The Hunt up with the transformation, and squeeze every Collapsing Star you can out of each form.
💚 Defensive Toolkit
Devourer keeps the Demon Hunter survival staples — a strong personal mitigation, a raid-wide cooldown, and mobility that doubles as a get-out-of-danger button.
🧰 Utility & Crowd Control
| Ability | Use |
|---|---|
| Disrupt | Primary interrupt (kick). Use a mouseover/focus macro. |
| Chaos Nova | Short AoE stun around you — pack-wide lockdown / interrupt backup. |
| Imprison | Single-target incapacitate; pair with /stopcasting to set it without losing your target. |
| Sigil of Misery | AoE fear-style sigil on a delay — disrupt a whole pack. |
| Chaos Brand | Passive raid buff — your presence increases the Magic damage enemies take. Always-on group value, and it lifts your own Void damage too. |
| The Hunt / Vengeful Retreat | Core mobility that also deals damage and repositions; double jump + Glide round out the kit. |
| Spectral Sight | See stealthed/hidden enemies and through walls — niche routing/scouting tool. |
| Consume Magic | Purge an enemy magic buff. Situational utility dispel. |
🗝️ Mythic+ Tips
- Devourer opens Season 1 as a premier M+ DPS — Collapsing Star is uncapped-feeling pack damage and Annihilator's
Voidfall keeps your burst rolling between pulls. - Plan routes so each Void
Metamorphosis lands on a meaty pack: you want to be in demon form when the most targets are stacked so Collapsing Star and Eradicate hit everything. - Hungering Slash is your AoE Fury/Soul builder — open packs with it so you enter the form with Souls already banked.
- Keep
Chaos Brand up (it's automatic) — it boosts the whole group's Magic damage and your own Void damage.
The Hunt and
Vengeful Retreat double as mobility/defensives; pre-plan so a dodge also progresses the pull instead of wasting the cooldown.- Run
Annihilator in keys — it is ahead of Void-Scarred across Season 1; only consider Void-Scarred for a very specific burst-on-demand need.
⌨️ Macros & Addons
WeakAuras is not supported in Midnight (12.0) — use Blizzard's built-in Cooldown Manager (importable configs on Wago.io). Addons: ElvUI, DBM/BigWigs, GTFO, Plater (M+ nameplates / cleave tracking).

🚫 Common Mistakes
- Entering Void
Metamorphosis off-cooldown without your trinket and potion — bank Souls and line the whole burst together instead. - Letting the form expire with Souls unspent — your goal inside the window is to convert Souls into Collapsing Stars before time runs out.
- Starving the form of Fury — Void Ray and the tier 4-piece's Fury refund are what keep Void
Metamorphosis alive; don't let Fury bottom out. - Ignoring
Voidfall stacks — with
Annihilator, dumping Reap/Eradicate at 3 stacks is a core part of your damage, not an afterthought. - Overcapping Souls or Soul Fragments outside the form — spend
Consume/Cull so you don't waste generation. - Running Void-Scarred by default — it is currently behind
Annihilator in Season 1; only bring it for a specific burst need.
